The Austrian blockchain ecosystem has evolved substantially over the years. Whereas six years ago, Initial Coin Offerings (ICOs) were popular with blockchain startups issuing tokens to finance their business models. Later Security Token Offerings (STO) were the next thing. However, STOs never really became big. A breakthrough could be seen in the year 2020 with Decentralised Finance as the darling of the crypto scene, and many Austrian ventures offered services.
This 2023 update has a lot new to offer:
We see nine new players in the field of web3 with more to come later this year. These companies offer marketing services for old economy corporations to assist them to creating virtual offices and showcases in the metaverse, to tokenise products. There is one new forensic project, a new consulting company focusing on token engineering. Also, phygitals entered the scene: several startups offer a combination of physical objects and digital (hence phygitals) and combine both the physical and the digital worlds. The surprise of the year is definitely Raiffeisen, which entered a cooperation with Bitpanda. Plus a conference, education and more!
